Marimekko - eventful, colourful and creative fabrics since 1951

Viljo and Armi Ratia started the Finnish textile Company Marimekko in May 1951.The Company had its prime time during the sixties and the seventies, but is even more popular after their re-introduction of a collection of their classic textile patterns, which they presented at the Company’s fiftieth anniversary in 2001.
Marimekko is well known for its printed cotton textiles in beautiful patterns and colours, such as Hetkiä and Kaiku, but also for the special Marimekko clothes made only by cotton. Several well known Finnish designers are working and have been working for Marimekko; Maija Isola, Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, Annika Rimala and Fujiwo Ishimoto are maybe the most famous.
