How to use a paraffin lamp:

  1. Twist off the chimney of your lamp in order to access the burner and fuel chamber.
  2. Remove the burner in order to fill the fuel chamber with lamp oil. Replace the wick if needed.
  3. Cut the wick so that it is level.
  4. Lower the wick so that the top barely sticks out of the burner.
  5. Let it soak for around 30 minutes to an hour.
  6. Light the wick and then reattach the chimney.
  7. Lower the wick in order to extinguish the flame.

Tip: If the flame starts to produce smoke, lower the wick.
