Kay Bojesen Denmark
Kay Bojesen had a very special talent; he could bring wood to life. His playful wooden toys all have a soul, a glimmer in the eye, a sense of humour and are a loved design classic around the world.

Kay Bojesen is one of Denmark’s most famous designers of all time. His first career steps were taken as part of a silversmith apprenticeship with one another one of Denmark’s biggest names in design; Georg Jensen. Though talented in the field, Kay Bojesen’s favourite material to design with was wood and starting in the 1930’s, he decided to persue this passion full-time.

Kay Bojesen loved children and decided to produce a range of wooden toys with soft, rounded shapes that would inspire children to play. The toys were an immediate success and it didn’t take long before the original range was complemented with further adorable toys. It was important for Kay Bojesen that the animals were not one hundred percent lifelike. After all, they were meant to trigger and inspire children’s imagination.

When Kay Bojesen passed away at age 72, he left behind a considerable heritage of over 2000 designs to his name, including some of the biggest classics in Scandinavian design today, such as the Kay Bojesen monkeys and Lovebirds.
