❄ Christmas Special: Extended Return Right until January 31st 2018 ❄
The story of the String shelf starts in 1949 with a Bonnier design competition for a bookshelf, 194 contestants and one winner. The String shelf by Nils “Nisse” Strinning won first prize and was taken into production.
The concept was simple; two brackets, three shelves. The inspiration for the covered wire brackets came from a dish rack design that Nisse Strinning designed years before and paved the way for what was to become one of Scandinavia’s most iconic designs.
Even though the shelf was designed in the 1940’s, the timeless design still feels as contemporary as ever. The String shelf simply fits into any home and any room. Today the shelf is available in a whole range of colours with a number of accessories to adjust and individualize the design for your home.
At Scandinavian Design Center you will find a broad assortment of the String Pocket – a complementary smaller String shelf that Nisse Strinning designed in his later years.
